Moon Shadow Online Therapeutic Program

Who is it for?

Moon Shadow is a 12-week online program aimed at women aged 18+ living in the UK, looking to improve their mental health and connect with a supportive community through guided activities and resources.

You will have experienced difficulties in your childhood and abuse or exploitation as a young person or adult which has adversely affected you in the long term.

You will self-identify with symptoms of Complex PTSD or have received the diagnosis.

Moon Shadow is part of the Survivors Hub which began in 2019 as a project dedicated to running peer-to-peer self-help groups for adults who have experienced prolonged, repeated exposure to abuse, be that physical, emotional, psychological, sexual or spiritual, in childhood or adulthood from which there was no real avenue of escape. Today it incorporates therapeutic programs designed and delivered by professionals from a range of disciplines. These include psychology, counselling and holistic approaches that address the individual's unique experiences and needs.

Please note: Eligibility will be assessed by clinicians upon completion of the registration form.

What to expect from the program

We create a safe space for you to share experiences of how you are managing, the ups and downs, and receive emotional support. The group is kept to a maximum of ten participants to ensure everyone has a chance to speak and connect with others.

We meet you where you are on your journey. Sessions are dynamic, informed by the needs of the group. They are structured along emerging themes, offering opportunities to listen, learn, reflect, discuss and share.

Two experienced facilitators bring a multi-disciplinary approach combining psychoeducation on the neurobiology of trauma and shamanic practices that can support Complex PTSD recovery.

You will be asked to complete online feedback forms to assist Recovery Code X in monitoring the quality and effectiveness of sessions.

On completion of the program, you should be equipped with new coping skills, pathways and options for continuing your journey towards wholeness and inner peace.

Is this program right for me?

Moon Shadow could be helpful if:

You self-identify or have been diagnosed with mild to moderate Complex PTSD and grew up in a traumatising environment, where there was abuse, and you suffered abusive relationships as an adult.

You would like to meet a friendly group of other women with similar experiences and reduce the isolation.

Or you'd like to just ā€œbeā€, listen and gain some insights and coping skills.

You're looking for a safe place to share progress on your healing and recovery.

The Group Agreement

1. Confidentiality

During a Moon Shadow session we take each other into our confidence. Everything said is confidential. What is said within the group, stays within the group. The only exception is if a Recovery Code X group facilitator or volunteer believes that a participant or someone else is at risk of harm.

2. Sharing and discussion

We listen to and respect each otherā€™s views. It is fine to share the impact of traumatic experiences and how these have made you feel, but we ask you not to share details of the abuse in the group.

3. Creating a safe space

We donā€™t judge each other, make personal comments or give advice. Sensitivity and compassionate behaviour are fundamental to creating a safe space for all.

4. No need to speak

We donā€™t want anyone to feel left out of discussions, but if you want to just listen and ā€˜beā€™, that is fine too.

5. Drugs and alcohol

If you attend a session under the influence of alcohol or drugs, one of the group facilitators will have to ask you to leave. Medication prescribed by a doctor is acceptable.

6. Friendships

If you decide you would like to contact a group member outside the group, you have to obtain their permission. When friendships develop, each party extends permission to contact each other both implicitly and explicitly.

7. Privacy

You need to be in a quiet place where you will not be disturbed. All mobile phones must be switched off at the start.

8. Anonymity

During sessions, it is recommended that only first names are used. Even a pseudonym is okay.
